Hot, hot, hot: insider tips on our Summer Sale
Author: Berry Bros. & Rudd
2013 Coteaux Bourguignons, Domaine Jean Grivot*
“From one of the finest domaines in Vosne-Romanée, and therefore Burgundy, this Coteaux Bourguignons from Domaine Jean Grivot is an absolute steal in the sale. This is essential drinking for those Gamay naysayers among you, showing what this grape can do in the right hands. Fine structure and a savoury, wild edge to the fruit will appeal to lovers of classically styled red Burgundy.” – Felipe Carvallo from our Events & Education team
2014 Sam Harrop, Cedalion Chardonnay
“Now I know everybody just goes straight to the Bordeaux and Burgundy sections of the Sale, but more fool those who overlook sumptuous alternatives such as this impressive Chardonnay. Broad and multifaceted, luxuriant yet poised, buy this now and enjoy in those golden weeks when summer’s heights seem a distant memory but before autumn’s chill first bites.” – Jared Ehret, Private Account Manager in Fine Wine
2015 Finca Calvestra, Merseguera, Bodega Mustiguillo
“The Finca Calvestra, Merseguera, and Mustiguillo in general, are one of my favourite discoveries of 2017. They don’t make a wine that I don’t love – but this wine, my first dalliance with the native Merseguera grape, was a revelation for me. Firstly, I expected it to be a fairly rich glass, something offering more boisterous charm that elegant refinement. And I was wrong about that. Secondly, the way it developed in the glass; at first quite shy, perhaps even disappointing, but then opening up to reveal layers of fruit underscored by an iodine salinity. Another year in the bottle since my first taste has seen it flesh out, and it’s a great food wine certainly, but I would welcome it equally as my lounging in sunshine tipple.” – Adam Holden from our Wholesale team
2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, Château de Beaucastel
“With every year that passes, I feel more and more inclined to ‘treat’ myself to the finer things in life. Last month was the Aspinal sale – I reasoned with the boyfriend and bought myself a travel set. This month however, there’s even more temptation with our very own sale. Half-bottles are the very definition of indulgence. More so when they come in Château-de-Beaucastel-shaped parcels. Hailing from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Perrin family stand gospel for this highly coveted style of wine. Not constrained to the size of its container, this wine is big in every other respect and well, you know what they say about small packages…” – Rebecca Austin, Assistant Manager of our Warehouse Shop
2013 Savennières, Fidès, Eric Morgat**
“This was one of my lightbulb-moment wines – a wine which I think about almost every day. With notes of crushed, ripe red apple, smoke, toast and butter, this wine can stand up to the best white Burgundies.” – Tatiana Humphreys, Wine Advisor at 63 Pall Mall
