A classic G&T is all well and good when you want something zesty and refreshing, but is a combination that’s at its best in summer. Here, we present our gently spiced alternative: a gin cocktail that’s just the thing for a chilly day.

Ingredients

50ml No.3 Gin
25ml spiced cranberry (see below)
125ml tonic water
Slice of orange to garnish

Method

Prepare your spiced cranberry in advance. Start by warming 250ml of cranberry juice over a low heat. Add 50g of caster sugar and stir until dissolved. Next, grate a piece of ginger and add into the pan along with two star-anise. Leave on a low heat for 20 minutes to allow the spices to infuse. After 20 minutes, remove from the heat, cool, strain and bottle.

Once you’ve prepared your spiced cranberry, building the gin cocktail is simple. Take a highball glass and pour in the No.3 Gin and spiced cranberry; add ice if desired, then top with tonic water and garnish with a slice of orange.
