An overview of the Rhône’s 2010s

Although the Rhône is one of the foremost wine producing regions of in the world, it enjoys far less hype than Bordeaux and Burgundy, so Hamish thinks those in the know can find superb quality wines from top producers at a fraction of the price of some better known wines. Hamish enjoys the huge variety available, from powerful Syrahs which dominate the North, rich blends from the South (most famously Châteauneuf-du-Pape) to the floral whites of Condrieu, and he believes the food and wine matching capabilities of the Rhône’s reds and whites are second to none.
Martyn favours the wines of the Northern Rhône. There’s nowhere else that you can find Syrah with purity and freshness that is reminiscent of Pinot Noir. 2010 Côte-Rôties will definitely be gracing Martyn’s table in 5-8 years time, but for now he’s drinking his 2006s which are just starting to drink beautifully now.
