The summer calendar is full of high-class entertainment and sees something happening almost every week in the world of sport and the arts, and (weather permitting) al fresco eating and drinking is as integral to the fun as the entertainment itself.
Our wine experts have set about the enjoyable task of choosing suitable wines to take on this summer’s big events.
For many, Wimbledon marks the start of the summer, and although there hasn’t been a British winner since 1977 we’re always good at showing our support whether it’s watching under an umbrella at No. 1 court or on the sofa with traditional strawberries and cream. The finals are this weekend and this elegant event requires equally elegant wine – we chose a rosé Champagne and a 2009 Beaujolais, both of which are fresh and exciting to match the action at Wimbledon, and of course a great match for strawberries!
If tennis isn’t your sport, this week you can head to Henley for the Royal Regatta. Al fresco dining plays a major part of this chilled out event, and the picturesque surroundings calls out for easy-going, subtle wines to complement it – a perfect alternative to Pimms. We suggest a smooth
